Summer is hopefully on it’s way, so now is the perfect time to get your garden and home ready for those days outside enjoying the sun.

Summer Pruning

If you have trees or shrubs in your garden, there are a few things you can do to help them thrive this summer.

  • Remove dead flowers: This encourages new bud formation and prevents the plant from putting energy into seed production.
  • Thin excess growth: Cut back long, leggy branches to control size and shape and improve air circulation.
  • Thin fruit clusters: For fruit trees, this prevents branches from breaking and ensures larger, healthier fruit.
  • Remove diseased or damaged branches: Cut these back to healthy wood to prevent the spread of disease.

Paint your fences

The job we all put off, but did you know that painting your fences and sheds every couple of years will actually add to their lifespan? You should paint your fences on a nice dry day (not too hot!), when they have had time to fully dry out from any previous rain.

Clean your guttering

  • Clear the Clogs: Summer storms can bring heavy rain, and clogged gutters can lead to water damage around your home. Take some time to clean out your gutters, removing any leaves, debris, and blockages.
  • Downspout: Inspect your downspouts and make sure they are securely attached to your gutters and directed away from your house. You may also want to consider adding extensions to your downspouts to further direct water flow.
  • Look for Leaks: While you’re cleaning your gutters, take a look for any leaks or cracks. If you find any damage, it’s important to repair it as soon as possible to prevent water damage.

Give your home exterior some TLC

The winter months can take its toll on the exterior of your home and damage can often go unnoticed until a bad storm occurs and water starts leaking through. A little time this summer can prevent damage from getting worse and becoming an expensive disaster during next winter. Here’s a few things for you to check:

  • Roof tiles – check they are still all there and intact
  • Fascia board – check for any rot, cracks or other damage. Why not give them a wipe over while you’re there too?
  • Windows – check they are in good condition and still fitted securely.
  • Chimney – check for bird nests, any cracks in the brickwork or other debris that may become dangerous.

How can Pop Up Products help you?

A lot of these summer jobs around the home and garden require you to work at height to some extent. Although working from a ladder can be suitable for short use, it is not recommended for use over 30 minutes and can become very dangerous if you are over-reaching or carrying equipment with you.

Instead, you should look at using other access equipment such as our access tower range which includes the Eiger and  Mi Tower. View our range here.

We offer training and full after sales advice to make sure you are using our products correctly, to avoid unnecessary accidents.
